Gecede Shakespeare’in eserlerinden ilham alan klasik müzik eserleri seslendirilirken, Hacettepe Üniversitesi’nin tiyatro bölümü oyuncuları da İngilizce ve Türkçe Shakespeare okumaları yaptı.

The United Kingdom’s National Day, St. George’s Day, and the 461st birthday of William Shakespeare were celebrated in Ankara. The event, held at the British Embassy in Ankara, featured a concert by the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory Orchestra conducted by renowned maestro James Ross.
Hosted by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Turkiye, Jill Morris, the evening brought together a distinguished group of guests from the worlds of diplomacy, arts, and business. Throughout the night, classical music pieces inspired by Shakespeare’s works were performed, and students from Hacettepe University’s theatre department presented Shakespeare readings in both English and Turkish.
Shakespeare Also Contributes to the Economy
Following the concert, British Ambassador Jill Morris delivered a speech in which she emphasized that Shakespeare’s timeless works continue to inspire the fields of art and culture, while also underlining that cultural activities significantly contribute not only to social life but also to the economy. Ambassador Morris continued:
“Tonight, we are not only celebrating the 461st birthday of William Shakespeare; we are also celebrating the deep and strong cultural ties that exist between the United Kingdom and Turkiye. William Shakespeare has captivated audiences for centuries.
This evening, William Shakespeare and the magnificent music we’ve heard come together with the innovative and dynamic aspects of modern Britain,” she said.
Following Ambassador Morris’s speech, guests were treated to a reception.
